Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park
Humans and their activity Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park
To help them in their various tasks and better understand the needs and expectations of the local population, Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park has set up three Committees which bring together a broad range of forces existing in the region: The Associative Life Committee, the Scientific and Long-Term Development Committee and the Economic and Social Committee.
The economic fabric of the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park is made up mostly of small handcraft or trade companies. Scarcely present, industry is concentrated in the Gramat and Lalbenque sectors.
The farming activity is also highly represented, focussing mostly on sheep farming. It relies on the quality of its products, whose reputation extends beyond our borders.
Handcrafts, trade and services benefit equally from the tourist appeal of the region and the separation between settlements, which requires a certain number of shops and proximity services to be maintained.
Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park is at once a space for environmental and heritage preservation and a lively, bustling region.
It participates in supporting public services and, as an experimental region, undertakes projects with the help of other organisations which aim to improve services to residents. This issue is all the more important considering that two thirds of the communes located within the territory of the Regional Natural Park have experienced positive demographic growth between 1990 and 1999 (date of the last population census).
It also encourages associative life, in particular by the work of the Associative Life Committee. However, none of this would be possible without the motivation, participation and involvement of the resident population.
Fairs and markets: a typical, charming aspect of our region!
Every commune has its own market! They obviously vary in size, but they all have common aspects: shimmering colours, tempting smells, products each more appetising than the last, and guaranteed friendliness!
Market sites and places for meetings and exchange, they are an intrinsic element of life for the residents of Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park.
