Cultural heritage Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park

The territory of Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park has forever been marked by the presence of humans and changed by their activities (farming and pastoral) as well as by their settlements.

It contains limestone constructions from various periods which have become heritage items: prehistoric megaliths, small farm buildings from dry stone, typical Quercy houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, etc...

Great architectural continuity marks the region with two major construction periods:

  • In the Middle Ages, the heritage of which can be found in the urban forms and the choice of sites for villages, castles and churches, followed by the 19th century with its rural society, which has left us dovecot towers, boletus, etc...
  • Dry stone walls later completed this heritage, marking out the plots of land. The resulting partitions confer an intimate, garden-like atmosphere on the region, landscapes on a human scale, where it is pleasant to live.
