The Park in action Cévennes National Park

Academician André Chamson saw the Cévennes National Park as a "lasting reserve", which is to say a place that would not be carried away by fleeting, shallow fashions. For the Cévennes, this is a beautiful issue on the scale of its history, and a heritage containing several incomparable richnesses:

The quality of the landscapes  resulting from three rocks (schist, limestone and granite), the watershed and the opposition of reliefs and climates. In addition, the heart of the Park consists of the largest protected area in France on the architectural plane.

Exceptional biodiversity, with almost half the flora and fauna in France represented.

- A cultural heritage with international recognition.

General guidelines for the CNP:

1 - Preservation of biodiversity

Maintaining three species of vultures, conservationist management of habitats and species, protection of wet environments, maintaining open environments with heritage interest, adapted management of protected animal and plant species, etc.

2 - Conservation of the regional character and the scenic and cultural heritage

Restoration and conservation of symbolic landscapes and the  architectural quality of the man-made heritage,  perpetuation of the memory of the region.

3 - Promotion of sustainable development with players in the region

Promotion and support for sustainable tourism in protected areas, obtaining an agro-sylvo-hunting balance that is accepted by everyone, promotion of eco-citizen behaviour.

4 - Implementation of governance best practices in the operation of the National Park

Visibility of the actions of the CNP, revision of the decree that created the CNP, drawing up the new charter,  transparency of activities and operation, sharing skills and experiences.

5 - Obtaining labels and maintaining their allocation

Classification as UNESCO biosphere reserve, approval according to the European Charter for sustainable development by EUROPARC, target to have the Causse-Cévennes region listed as "UNESCO World Heritage Site".
