Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park
Humans and their activity Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park
An active rural region, the Haut-Languedoc is also pervaded by an industrial history. Its open-air agriculture is dynamic and varied, offering products that show true bonds with a renowned region: renowned viticulture (5 AOCs), meat and dairy farming (Roquefort AOC), arboriculture, etc. in addition to many more localised productions, with high quality and considerable added value.
The forest mass takes up 70 % of the territory. It generates a production of wood in full expansion and supplies a professional field currently in the process of being classified. Industrial and traditional activities are closely linked to the promotion of natural resources: stone (Sidobre granite, lauze, marble, slate), water (spring water and hot springs), textile (spinning, dyeing, etc.).
Finally, tourism has experienced sustained growth based on numerous attractive sites such as the Caroux, the Sidobre, the Plateau des Lacs, the Montagne Noire and on a large number of visitors from neighbouring regions based on a brand image of preserved nature.
