Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park
Natural environments Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park
A region with an asserted highland identity, the Park is marked by a double bio-climatic influence from the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. In this way, it benefits from great environmental variety as well as completely exceptional biological and scenic diversity.
This environmental resource can be found in the animal and plant kingdoms: over 2500 species are listed (not including invertebrates and lower plants) including a great variety of birds of prey, the symbolic mouflon or remarkable plant species, some of which are endemic (spiranthes aestivalis, golden garlic, nigella gallica, etc.).
The Park is home to over 240 species of birds, most notably the golden eagle and Bonelli's eagle. Of the thirty or so species of bats listed in France, 21 are represented in the Haut-Languedoc.
Peat bogs and various humid areas, dry meadows and mountain moors, riparian forests and so on form natural habitats of major interest and cover a considerable area of the territory.
