In this land of farms and forests, throughout the centuries, men have known how to draw from the plentiful energy supplied by the rivers to develop craft and industrial activities based on the skills that have established the reputation of the region well beyond its geographical limits, and which continue to honour it around the world.

Thus, entirely devoted to knives since the 14^th century, the Thiers area manufactures 70% of the sharp instruments produced in France; in the Pays d'Ambert, famous for its fourme, blue cheese with a delicate touch of parsley, the heirs of the 19^th century lace and braid manufacturers are currently world leaders in the production of sheaths for electric cables, bungee ropes, rock-climbing ropes, etc.
