Humans and their activity Millevaches en Limousin Regional Natural Park

A rural region, the Millevaches is an area of renowned traditional know-how and, in fact, craft activities are closely related to the promotion of these local resources. Its agriculture and its gastronomy offer produce strongly connected to the land: renowned Limousin sheep and cow farms, berries, cheeses, etc.

The charter of Millevaches en Limousin Regional Natural Park is a sustainable economic development project based on promoting heritage resources:

- Agriculture: Grass raising of cows of Limousin race and sheep of Limousin race ("Agneau du Plateau"), diversified production (berries, goat faming, organic, etc.).

- Forest and wood: The forest mass generates wood production which creates jobs. The wood is used for pulping (panels and papermaking), joinery (construction of chalets, etc.), and as planks for supplying wood-burning boilers. This natural resource has given rise to primary and secondary processing companies.

- Handcrafts and trade: Halfway between tradition and modernity, artisan activities are closely linked to the promotion of local resources (stone, wood, etc.). They network the region and contribute in an essential manner to maintaining a satisfactory level of services and consumer goods for the local population.

Several fields for setting up business in the Millevaches region:

  • Tourism: accommodation and restaurants, nature sports, environmental education, …
  • Innovation: technology, information and communication, …
  • Wood field: wood for fuel, tree felling and hauling, wooden construction, etc.
  • Stone field: building trades, refurbishing old buildings, etc.
