Pilat Regional Natural Park
Humans and their activity Pilat Regional Natural Park
Town-oriented agriculture With 1335 farms, agriculture remains an important business sector in the Pilat. The diversity of terrains and climates in the Pilat accounts for the great variety of farm produce: dairy farming (cows and goats), vines, orchards, market gardening, cereal growing. To guarantee authentic natural farm produce using traditional methods and guarantee its origins, agriculture in the Pilat focuses on quality products identified by labels such as AOC "Condrieu" or even "Château-Grillet" which are among the best white wines in the world.
Underexploited forest Covering almost 50% of the territory, forest is an important natural resource in the Massif. However, the Pilat forest is underexploited. The wood industry is essentially a primary processing sector: sawing, planing and processing wood. The mainstay of an economic activity, the Pilat forest thus provides a space for leisure and means for protecting the soil against erosion or a water resource. One of the issues consists of promoting a form of exploitation that allows it to perform all these roles.
A long tradition of small industries Industry is predominant in the Pilat economy (47% of the workforce). It consists of 330 small businesses and is highly diverse: textile, agribusiness, mechanical, metallurgy, wood. This peculiar situation for a rural region is partly due to the numerous industrial activities that used to be carried out in homes, in addition to farming, or in small family-run workshops.
