Cultural heritage Pilat Regional Natural Park
Rich heritage
Churches, traditional housing, castles or simple wayside crosses: the man-made heritage of the Pilat is a reflection of its cultural wealth.
The medieval village of Malleval, from the top of its rocky outcrop, overhangs the Rhône and offers, weather permitting, unforgettable views over the Alps.
The Carthusian monastery of Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez, which became a village after the Revolution, has conserved its monastic architecture and currently ranks as one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Not to mention the factories and mills that one can discover leaving the main roads. Installed along the watercourses, these warm-coloured buildings bear witness to the milling and passementerie activities that used the hydraulic force of the many streams in the Pilat.
